Abstract

One commune on product (OCOP) program is determined as an important solution for rural economic development, which connects to the New Rural program in Vietnam. Thua Thien Hue, one of 12 pilot provinces of the Central Government, has verified 100 potential products, which were specialties, craft villages and typical advantage of the locality to participate in OCOP, especially Hue cajeput oil. In 2020, the cajeput oil product of Truong Hai facility was recognized as one of 17 OCOP products of the province, which achieved three stars and one of two herbal products was certified. The research findings indicated that Truong Hai facility has had more chances to confirm brand value and market development after participating in the OCOP program. The product has trademark registration, geographical indication and traceability, which ensure peace of mind for customers, suitable with aspiration and original reason for participating in OCOP of the subject. However, the benefit in business has not had different changes yet compared to before participating in the OCOP program. Facility owner still faces difficulties including capital and land to be proactive in the local raw material area, expand production scale, increase investment, improve model and upgrade star level for the product. Therefore, the aspiration of facility owner needs the capital support and capacity building to implement business plan, develop and commercialize OCOP products.
