Abstract

Labor export has been playing an important role in the national economic strategy, contributing to increasing household income, reducing poverty and improving vocational skills for Vietnamese laborers. This study evaluates the current situation of Vietnamese laborers in Japan, and analyzes the factors that affect the intention to extend their working time in Japan Through interviews with 124 Vietnamese laborers in Okayama city, Japan, the results showed the following factors: age, Japanese language proficiency, income, household type, level of job satisfaction and life, and support from the Japanese government have a significant influence on the intention to extend working time in Japan. In particular, income and satisfaction with work and life are the strongest two affecting factors. This study emphasizes the decisive influence of ensuring a stable income and creating a positive working environment for Vietnamese laborers in Japan on the intention to extend working time. Policymakers for exporting labor to the Japanese market need to focus on these decisive factors to increase contract renewal rates, thereby maximizing the benefits of labor export program. In addition, improving administrative support and international relations will contribute to strengthening laborers' confidence and enhancing Vietnam's image in the global labor market.
