Abstract

This study investigates the interrelationships among information sources, destination image, country image, and destination choice of international tourists in the Mekong Delta region. Drawing upon the Consumer Information Processing (CIP) theory and Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), the research employs a mixed-method approach, collecting data from 486 international tourists in An Giang and Can Tho provinces. The analysis reveals that the research model accounts for 63.3% of the variance in destination choice behavior, with information sources emerging as the most influential factor (β = 0.648). Notably, the study clarifies the bidirectional relationship between destination image and country image, demonstrating a positive impact of destination image on country image (β = 0.461). The research's significant contribution lies in illuminating the multi-stage impact chain from information sources to destination choice through destination image and country image - indicating that the tourism destination choice process is complex, occurring through various impact pathways rather than following a simple linear progression.
