Abstract
This study investigates the impact of provincial governance and public administration performance on households’ perceptions of improved living standards in Vietnam. Using data from the Vietnam Household Living Standards Survey (VHLSS) for 2012–2020 combined with the Provincial Governance and Public Administration Performance Index (PAPI), the analysis applies ordered logit and OLS models. The findings reveal that both past governance quality and improvements in PAPI are positively and significantly associated with households’ perceptions of life improvement. In particular, dimensions such as citizen participation, vertical accountability, corruption control, and administrative procedure reforms show clear effects. The results highlight the importance of local governance reforms, suggesting that provincial authorities should prioritize strengthening transparency and improving public service delivery to foster sustainable social well-being.
