Abstract
This study focuses on comparing the economic efficiency of intercropping and specialized shrimp model in Quang Dien district, Thua Thien Hue province. Through the investigation of 45 intercropping farmers in Quang Phuoc commune and 30 farmers of specilized model in Quang Cong commune, the results show that, intercropping farmer brings a profit of 39.44 million VND/ha in average, while the specialized shrimp model only brings in 21.33 million VND/ha. Beside the economic efficiency, this farming has also contributed to reduce environmental pollution and limit diseases. Futhermore, the research also indicates that experience, training courses as well as the investment in good quality seed, pond treatment and labor are the factors which have a direct influence on the productivity. In order to limit risks and improve household’s income for intercropping shrimp farming, local authorities need to re-plan farming areas, strengthen close linkages between households and diversify consuming markets.
