Abstract
The main goal of this study is to assess operational efficiency and explore the factors affecting the performance of Vietnamese commercial banks after the restructuring period of the banking system. In particular, this study applied the Two-stage DEA Bootstrap method proposed by Simar and Wilson (2007). The results of the study showed an improvement in operational efficiency of Vietnamese commercial banks after the restructuring period. Specifically, the efficiency score of banks increased from 0.607 in 2016 to 0.704 in 2021. The average bias-corrected efficiency score obtained from the process of Simar and Wilson (2007) for the research period was 0.634. This result provided more evidence for the correctness and appropriateness of the restructuring process of the banking system in Vietnam carried out in the period 2011-2015. In addition, this study figured out the factors affecting the operational efficiency of Vietnamese commercial banks after the restructuring period. These factors include size, financial stability, return on assets, market concentration, and whether the bank has a state-owned predecessor.
